A Summary of the settings
Most of the settings in the Upload Template window are the same between most of the Upload Templates and they are documented in the Photo Mechanic Manual. However, there are some that have a certain significance to users of DF Studio or that might impact the quality of the images that end up on DF Studio.
1. Currently DF Studio will only accept JPEG files from the upload template in Photo Mechanic, If you want Photo Mechanic to decide how to convert your images to JPEG then select "Origional Images". If you would like more control about what is uploaded (which we suggest) then choose "Saved as JPEG" and change the JPEG Quality to a value that is at the High end of the slider. If you select to Subsample Chroma this will remove some chroma information which will reduce the uploaded file size at the expense of some color quality (we do not recomend to check this box)
2. Source for image rendering is covered in an upcoming step.
3. Operations: for more information on IPTC stationary we suggest you refer to the Photo Mechanic Manual (apx Page 33). Some information on Renaming will be covered in an upcoming step.
4. DF Studio Setups will be covered in an upcoming step.
Source for rendering uploaded files
For images that are in a RAW format that Photo Mechanic can render there are some options. We do not recomend "Use embedded preview" as this image may be of a much smaller size and lower quality then would appropriate for use in DF Studio and will also not have any color corrections or other adjustments that you may of applied after the Image was shot.
Renaming Images
You can rename your images to suit your needs in DF Studio. Historically Digital Fusion has used a naming scheme of jobname_setup_imagenumber (if you adopt this naming sequence your images can be added to setups on the server side. There are a lot of options to add "Variables…" to your naming. If you click (1) Variables… you will see the list of options (filenamebase is the filename without the extension). This is documented in the Photo Mechanic Manual as well (apx pages 46, 68)
Setups for your images
DF Studio supports a notion of Setups for your images to group them within a Project. In the process of uploading you can upload your images to the default setup, you can allow the server to attempt to extract the setup name from your uploaded files name (or the name you choose to rename it to), or you can define your setup for this upload
Tracking Upload Progress
While your files are uploading to DF Studio you can track their progress after they are copied and rendered to a temporary location on your drive (make sure you have enough free space for the images you plan to upload). You can continue to work with Photo Mechanic while your images are uploading, and you can more images to the Upload Queue while it is uploading another set of images. Be aware the rendering RAW files to JPEG for upload can have a significant impact on your computers performance.
