Understanding the terminology of DFStudio:

Project
A project represents a collection of images typically shot in one day, at one location. A real-life project may sometimes span multiple days but all projects in DF Studio have a single shoot date. Jobs consisting of more than one shoot date are broken into multiple DF Studio projects. Jobs are often broken up into multiple setups.

Setup
A sub-section of a project. All images in a setup generally contain the same content. That is, same model, same background, etc. A new setup may be a new pose, a new background, another person, etc.

Image
A single photograph. DF Studio images are generally represented by four different JPEG files:
    •    Full-size: 1–1 representation of the original file.
    •    Loupe: medium- to large-size file used with the loupe tool; loupe files are 1800 pixels on the long side.
    •    Proof: used in the single image view; proof files are 625 pixels on the long side.
    •    Thumbnail: used in multi-image layouts; thumbnail files are 125 pixels on the long side.

Proofsheet
A web-based representation of a project and the photographer (or other user’s) edit (see below). The proofsheet displays thumbnails with colored borders which represent the select levels of each image.

Select Level
A value that a photographer (or other user) applies to an image. DF Studio uses the following select level values:
    •    Unselected (default): gray
    •    First select: green
    •    Second select: yellow
    •    Kill/Unapproved: red

Edit
A change or addition to the select level of an image. DF Studio allows different users to create their own edits to the same image and individual users to create multiple edits. Thus, the select level of an image is dependent on which edit is being viewed.

Account
A segregation of projects in which all projects belong to a single account. Accounts may have more than one user.

User
An individual with access to an account. Users have a single role (see below), and may belong to one or more user groups (in multi-user accounts).

User Group (Multi-User Accounts)
Users may be assigned to one or more user groups. Currently the only use for user groups is for controlling access to projects and setups; access to setups may be given to one or more user groups.

Role (Multi-User Accounts)
A level assigned to each user to control which functions are available to that user. Roles include:
    •    Account Admin
    •    Account User
    •    Account Viewer
    •    Account Sender

Messenger
A collection of images from a single project sent to a recipient. Messenger may contain all images from the project, or a subset. Messengers provide the user with a number of options for the recipient, such as the ability to make an edit, or to download the images.

Portfolio
A collection of images from one or more projects, assigned to a portfolio template – a layout presentation displayed using either HTML or Flash.

Project Group (Multi-User Accounts)
Provides the ability to display projects by group, instead of individually. A project may be assigned to a single project group. Accounts may create as many project groups as they wish.

Keyword
A project may be assigned one or more keywords, which may be used when searching for projects.

Address Book
A collection of names, email addresses and phone numbers. DF Studio Accounts each have their own Address Book. Address Book information is shared/common to all users of the Account. The primary function of the Address Book is for sending Messengers and Portfolios.
