James Dimmock Recreates “Big Hollywood Comedy”

With the help of DigitalFusion, James Dimmock casts Olivia Munn in some sexy scenes from classic funny films for Complex.

Client: Complex Magazine
Photographer: James Dimmock
Subject: Olivia Munn

Photographer James Dimmock with the help of DF·PRO sought to re-create some of the most memorable and sexy scenes from classic funny films for this year’s cover of Complex Magazine’s “Big Hollywood Comedy Issue”.

This year’s Complex cover consisted of Andre 3000 and Will Ferrel on one side, and the ever attractive down to earth Olivia Munn, Co-Host of G4’s Attack of The Show, on the other.

Munn and Dimmock with full cooperation and support from DigitalFusion re-created sexy scenes of legendary “Dream Girls” from movies like Weird Science, Wayne’s World and There’s Something About Mary. The goal? To put some truth behind what Olivia Munn has already been referred to as “The Perfect Woman”.

Wayne's World

The cover photo came from the epic pool scene from Fast Times and Ridgemont High where Phoebe Cates comes out of the pool in a red bikini to give what Munn describes as “the best dream sequence ever!”

Weird Science

James Dimmock, who has shot plenty of the biggest stars and hottest covers, is quite familiar with DF·PRO. For this shoot he was supplied with a full complement of digital gear as well as on-site Digital Tech, Russ Langford from DigitalFusion.

Langford has helped Dimmock as his Digital Tech on many other shoots. He acts as the corner stone of connection between the vision of the photographer and the final product. The on-site Digital Tech is provided by DigitalFusion to insure that the technology is used to its full potential, and to make sure the photographer can achieve his vision on set, and have the files ready for Post production. With the quick on-site editing and compositing provided by Langford, Dimmock and Munn were able to see almost immediately a close to finished product right on set.

There’s Something About Mary

This acted as a very valuable amenity to not only encourage Munn with more confidence but to allow Dimmock to compare his work with what he was trying to recreate without having to leave the set. The presence of Langford also allowed Dimmock to know exactly what was needed and what was possible.

“A part of my job is to make it as easy as possible for the photographer and for post production.” Says Langford, “I get asked all the time ‘Can we do this?’ It’s a major education for people who are really seasoned to know what we now can do…it’s great to take a shot with a great body where she happened to blink, and be able to swap it for the perfect face.”
